1.Advanced Photonics Congress2022About

Participated in the Advanced Photonics Congress held in Maastricht, the Netherlands, July 25 - 28...This is the second international conference that I have attended outside of Japan....The increasing number of conferences being held locally suggests a gradual return to pre-coronavirus conditions worldwide....Since the event was held in Europe, it seems that many people from European countries come to the site.Participants from the U.S. and China are participating online andI think the advantages of a hybrid event are being well demonstrated....
Since our society is a congress, multiple conferences come together to form a single society....I attended one called Nonlinear Photonics.As the name suggests, the main theme of the conference is nonlinear optics...Other conferences include Integrated Photonics Research and Photonic Networks and Devices.It was an interesting conference because we were able to see them freely....Conference Reception held on the first day of the event included steaks and wine....
Maastricht, the host city, is located almost at the southernmost tip of the Netherlands.You can enter Belgium in a few minutes by train....andGermany is pretty close too.It takes about 30 minutes to cross the border. In fact, we stayed in Visé, Belgium during the Congress, and the airport and PCR inspection were located in Germany. This caused some problems, because Visé is located in the southern part of Belgium.Southern Belgium is French-speaking and English was not understood in restaurants....I didn't understand a word of French and they didn't seem to understand English at all, so I had to order only by body language....This was one case that made me keenly aware of the need to pay attention to language areas when visiting Europe....

2. Presentation by the presenter

This presentation was about the stability of Raman comb and the comparison of the measured results of longitudinal mode spacing of the comb with MI comb and the results of transmission experiments using Raman comb. The format of the presentation was oral, and I actually went up on the stage and gave a presentation at the site. However, the problem of English language skills is not something that can be improved overnight, and the point to be improved is that I could not answer the questions in the Q&A session because I did not understand the intention of the questions. QuestionThe content of this presentation is a very important part of the presentation, although it was resolved through individual conversations after the session was over.The question was about "What is the best way to get the best results from the product?

3. introduction of related research

[NeM2C.2] Multisection Photonic Integrated Active Demultiplexer - Calibration to Operation

In order to improve the yield rate of PICs, a feedback circuit is implemented at the same time, and the PICs are calibrated after they are made.
The PIC manufacturing process is to perform fabrication, packing, and prototyping. Current PIC manufacturing requires testing at each stage of fabrication, packing, and prototyping, which inevitably leads to delays in the development cycle and higher prices.
By incorporating this test in the design phase, we are trying to consolidate the test into a single test.

The Wavelength, Side mode suppression ratio (SMSR), and Output power (OP) are all measured in advance using a calibration circuit to determine the relationship between the voltage applied to the process part and these values, which enables the correction of manufacturing errors. In fact, it has been confirmed that the wavelength values are almost the same as the required values.

[NeM2C.3] Programmable Photonic Circuits Powered by Silicon Photonic MEMS Technology

This paper describes the development of a 2x2 high-performance optical switch using MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems) to realize a programmable optical circuit. In order to realize FPGAs in electronic circuits as well as optical circuits, compactness, low latency, and low loss are required, which are achieved by using MEMS optical switches. The structure is an optical coupler, but by controlling the distance between waveguides, the following connections can be made.
