About CLEO-PR2022

In the Pacific RimFrom device development to system design and applicationThis is an international conference to report recent research and development on a wide range of lasers and optoelectronics.
This meeting will be held onThis is the 15th time the event has been held andThe conference was held in Japan (Sapporo) for the first time in nine years. This was the second time for me to attend an international conference.Since CLEO-PR is positioned as a subcommittee of CLEO, one of the largest international conferences in the field of opticsI was as nervous as I had been when I first participated in the conference. Although the event was held in Japan, there were many Chinese and Korean participants.Since many foreigners, including Indians, went to the site, and not only oral presentations but also poster presentations and company exhibitions were held, it was not surprising that the number of participants was so large.Once again, the scale and quality of the conference was impressive.

Title: FEC-free dense WDM transmission with Kerr soliton microcombs in crystalline MgF2 microresonators
Presenter:Yukiya Tanigawa
Affiliation:Keio University
Presentation No.CThA8C-04 (Thu. 4th Aug.)

The presentation was about the demonstration of WDM transmission using a soliton microcomb generated by a magnesium fluoride micro optical resonator and employing intensity modulation and direct detection in the laboratory and in the field. Since I had prepared the presentation slides and memorized the manuscript, I was able to give a good presentation.I personally evaluate that the presentation was good in terms of both content and time. HoweverDuring the Q&A session, due to his own limited English skillsI cannot deny the feeling that my presentation was spoiled because I could not understand the intent of the questions or could not respond properly. I was once again reminded of the importance of English, and at the same timeI felt that the improvement of listening and speaking skills is an urgent issue.

Title:Strong phase-noise suppression of a Kerr comb via synchronization to an optical parametric oscillator
Presenter:Jae K. Jang
Affiliation:Columbia University
Presentation Number:CTuP6A-02

1The presentation showed that a Kerr soliton comb synchronized to an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) on a single SiN chip can significantly suppress phase noise, and that a 200 GHz FSR comb synchronized to a 3.6 THz frequency spacing reference light by an OPO can significantly suppress phase noise.Phase noise suppression of about 30 dB was achieved at an offset frequency of 10 kHz. The soliton and OPO are thermally controlled by a heater.

Title: Sub-30-fs all-fiber electro-optic comb at 1.5 μm with 25-GHz repetition rate
Presenter:Yugo Kikkawa
Affiliation:NTT Basic Res. Lab., NTT Corp.
Presentation Number:CThP6F-05

The presentation showed that an all-fiber EO comb was used to generate 24 fs pulses at 25 GHz repetition rate at 1.5 μm. The precise design of the SiN waveguide generated supercontinuum light over 2/3 of an octave, and the pulse duration was about 1.5 ms.The 2f-3f self-reference enables stabilization of the CEO frequency. The use of an ultra-narrow linewidth laser with a linewidth of 1 Hz as a light source was impressive.

Title:Distance measurement based on a coherently synthesized two-color EO comb toward high-accuracy air-refractive index self-correction
Presenter:Runmin Li
Affiliation:The University of Electro-Communications
Presentation Number:CThP6F-06

The presentation was about distance measurement by two-color EO comb, which can realize accurate optical distance measurement by self-correction of refractive index in free space using a method called two-color method, and phase synchronization of beats of two EO combs can realize coherent 2Color EO com is generated andUsing this method, it is possible to accurately determine the distance for the phase refractive index and the distance for the group refractive index. It is interesting to note that the distance resolution is 1 μm.
